To Do Tuesday

Hi Again!  Another week gone by.  I spend a lot of time thinking about blog entries I could write, but don't seem to get to the computer to make it happen.  To Do Tuesday really helps me get at least this one done.

First, last week's goals:

1.  Quilt as many customer quilts as possible (minimum of 3)
2.  Finish refinishing the table.
3.  Finish family masks.

1.  Quilt as many customer quilts as possible.  I set a minimum of 3 knowing that I had a few things on the calendar, and I was trying to finish the table.  I got 6 done! Yahoo!  I really enjoyed working through these quilts.  Sometimes I feel like I am behind, then I realize that to totally get caught up is a myth.  So, I just keep plugging away doing to best I can.

Here is one I recently quilted for my beautiful daughter.  The I Spy blocks were given to her from our friend Kim who comes to sewing group.  She pieced them together, I quilted it and she got the binding finished.  My granddaughter loves it!

Here's the back - cuddle fabric of course!

The design is Diagonal Plaid.  She didn't want anything to detract from the blocks.  I thought this was a good option.

2.  Finish refinishing the table.  Done!  This is what I started with.  Lots of chips on the old finish.

Here it is somewhere in the middle.

And here it is in my kitchen!  I'm really happy with how it finished up.

Now, I am helping my daughter by refinishing her table top.  I'll have pictures of it next week.

3.  Finish family mask.  Done!  I made 2 for each child and each spouse.  I even have a few extra.  However, I still have a few to make for the College Student.  He's going to need one every day.

So the goals for the coming week?  Very similar

1.  Finish refinishing my daughter's table.
2.  3 customer quilts.
3.  Prepare for a visitor (clean house)

My last Mini Quilt for Now

Here is the last mini quilt made for the Sew Small Guild.   I used flying geese to make the stars.

I had members of the guild sign squares for the centers of the stars.

I used Kim Diehl fabric, and made the sashing from the same fabrics as the stars.  The cornerstones are the same as the outer border.

Here you can see the quilting.  I used rulers for the stars, and ditch quilting.

The outer border was done free motion.

I wanted to make a mini version of this quilt, since the original is about 42" square.   I just ran out of steam to do it.  I have so many other things I have been working on.

Earlier this year, I made a store sample for Christmas:

It used a charm pack and some yardage.  I chose the pink colorway (also available in red), because I didn't think it would sell as well as the red.  People like to see them done before they buy.

I used a stencil for the feathered wreath, free motion for the sashing, and rulers for the ditch work.

I also put Cuddle fabric on the back...this will be a baby quilt someday.

Then, I wanted to play with some moda mini charms.  You know...the 2 1/2 inch squares that come with a line.  I used 2 packs from the Daysail line by Moda, with 3/4 yard of background fabric.  I laid them out in rows...on the diagonal.

It was still a little small, so I added borders, after gluing the fabric down.  I took it to my Fusion, and used a ruler to keep my lines straight.  I stitched them all down, and this is how it turned out.

I really like how the back looks!  I used a soft flannel the same color as the border, just a little paler.

Then a free-motion flower and swirl in the border.

Another baby quilt to set aside for someday.  This kind of quilting...just playing with an idea...makes me happy.  I saw something similar at my training for Handi Quilter reps.  Works great!

Next time I'll share some photos from HMQS 2015.  I saw some great quilts, and took some fun classes.  After that, maybe some customer quilts.  Until then...

More Fun Pictures

My friend, Janet, promised more pictures of Sue with personality.  She sent them, so, I'm sharing them here.

Thanks, Janet!!!

I know the gals in the classes had a fabulous time.  There was a lot of laughter, and a lot of trying things out on the machines.  Sue made you feel like you could do anything!

I was a little nervous when she was sharing quilts, while standing by the stairs.  I was afraid that in her exuberance, she would take a step back and tumble down.  However, she did not and all was well!

I spent a day and a half quilting cross-hatches on a quilt, using a ruler.  I now know that I will need to charge more for this service, as it takes a LOT of time.

This is the front of the quilt, only not really that yellow.

Here is the back of the quilt.  I used the computerized machine at work to do the 6-petal flowers, then brought it home to do the ruler work on the rest.  So, about 2 full days of quilting.

So, I did an easy one, next.  I baby quilt.

I found the design online with a Google search on baby boy quilts.  It may have been a pantograph, but was easy to do free-motion.

I was so excited about the swirls, and how easy they were, I put on a minky quilt for my 15-year-old son.  I played with swirling circles and squares, and loved the way it looked.  I wanted to leave some puffiness to it, so I kept the quilting nice and big.

And the best part?  It only took about an hour to quilt.  Nice play time on a busy day.  I'll bind it soon.

Have a great week and Happy Sewing!

Week 11 ...My how time flies!

Well, I am 11 weeks into the year, and I am keeping up with my blogging.  Will miracles never cease?!  :)

This week I have been painting, and I have more painting to do, so no pictures to show, yet.  I have taken some before and during pictures.  The after pictures will be taken soon, I hope.  Still have trim to do, and the kitchen.

I did finish the customer quilt I was working on, and I got the binding on the baby boy quilt.  Here it is all finished.

I am happy it is done...One less thing on my list.  I have put myself on a spending freeze, except yarn.  I am working only on projects I already have stuff for.  So, what's on the list for this week?

More painting.  Challenge quilt top for guild (due in April). Itty Bitty Pinwheel (cut up - I need to sew back together), or projects for the shop hop.

Just know, I am keeping myself busy when I am not working at the shop.  I have lots to get done and want to get my house back in order.  How about you?
