I've had quite the quilting journey.  I started out quilting on my Bernina sewing machine.  Then, I learned how to use a longarm quilting machine, so I had to buy one.  Then, I learned how to use the computer, so I had to buy one.  I actually have had the opportunity to learn enough on the longarm that I now teach classes at my local quilt shop.  Of course, with everything in the world being turned upside down this spring, I'm not teaching classes for a bit yet.  I have kept busy quilting at home, though.  I thought I would show a few things I've quilted lately.

I love this one.  The bright Kaffe Fassett fabrics were a delight to look at.  The quilting design is Kaleidoscope e2e.  It has so many swirls and bubbles, just a really fun pattern.

This next one, does not have any computer work on it.  I traced the wool flowers on Golden Threads paper, then quilted through it. After echoing around the applique, then filled in with the echoed curve.

This last one was mostly free motion.  I just used the computer on the squares in the corner.  I've been working on feathers, so I'm really excited how these turned out.

The amazing thing is, that when I was doing the free motion, I really felt a zen-like state.  I was relaxed and really enjoyed it.  I sometimes forget that I feel that way when I quilt.

That's it for today.  Keep on Sewing!

2017 Block of the Month Finished

The last item on my UFO list was the 2017 block of the month from "A Quilting Life".  She offered a block every month, in 2 sizes.  6 inches and 12 inches.  Since I like to make small things, I actually made both sizes of each block, in the same fabrics for both blocks.  So, each block has a twin.

Because I used such fun colors on the front, I picked a floral with similar colors for the backing, and used some of the blue from the front as well.

So, that finishes my UFO list.  I can't believe I made them all!  Now I'll be working on a new UFO list.  Mary at Country Threads does a dirty dozen, and it starts in July.  I think I might join in on that.

My UFO list report

Here is the list of UFO's from 2017.

1. Underground Railroad Sampler
2. Civil War Tumblers
3. Spring Embroidery
4. Singing the Blues
5. Charm Pack Quilt
6. Jelly Roll Quilt
7. Barn Raising From the Heart
8. A Quilting Life BOM 2017

These are the quilts I will be working on through May 2018. Will post as each one is finished.

Now I want to tell you about each of these UFO's.

1.  Underground Railroad Sampler.  I blogged about this on June 23.  It was finished April 2020.

2.  Civil War Tumblers.  This one didn't get a blog entry or a picture.  It was finished and given away to a nephew fighting colon cancer.  It's probably been about 18 months ago.

3.  Spring Embroidery.  This one is finished.  The embroidery was probably started in 2008 or 2009.  I finished it February 2020.  It currently hangs on my dining room wall.  It was a Crab Apple Hill design, meant to be a pillow.  Only pillows don't do well in my house, so wall-hanging it is.

4.  Singing the Blues.   I blogged about that on June 24. I don't remember when it was finished.

5.  Charm Pack Quilt.  I've done a few charm pack quilts, so I will say that one is done.

6.  Jelly Roll Quilt.  This one is my favorite quilt.  I use it on top of my bed at night for an extra layer, and also for naps.

7.  Barn Raising from the Heart.  Also finished.  What held me back?  The applique of course!
So, I ended up quilting the applique into place.  It was fun to quilt.  The quilt was started prior to 2010.  It was finished sometime in the last year and a half.

8.  A Quilting Life Block of the Month 2017.  This one was finished June 2020.  I'll share that next time.

I also need to make a new list!  No worries, though, I have plenty to choose from.

Another Finish

Many years ago, my friend, Pam, gave me these embroidered snowman blocks.  It took a while for me to figure out what to do with them.  It seems some ideas just need to percolate for a while in my brain.

Here is how it finished up...

Here is what I did in the alternate blocks.  It's a great design, done with my Pro-Stitcher, I believe the design was purchased from Wasatch Quilting.

Here is one of the hand-embroidered blocks that Pam made for me.  She does beautiful work.

Even though it takes me a while to work out a design, I enjoy figuring out things and putting them together without a pattern.

So, this is another project finished!

Underground Railroad Sampler - 2 generations

My mom started this quilt many years ago.  It's the pattern from Eleanor Burns, and Mom took a class to learn how to piece each block.  Then she gave them to me to piece into a quilt.   Mom suffered from Parkinson's disease the last 16 years of her life.  So, the blocks were a lot of different sizes.  I was stumped.  I did not know how to finish it.  Mom pestered me to get it done.  I told her I would.  She passed away in 2013.  Since then, the blocks have been on my UFO list several times, but the number never came up.  I thought I might need to make filler blocks, so I bought several 1/3 yard cuts of Kim Diehl fabric.

I started working on the blocks for our PHD (Projects Half Done) in our Sew Small Guild.  I chose to work on 3 blocks per month, during the guild year, with the goal of finishing it up in May.

I actually had to start over on some of the blocks, so I used the Kim Diehl fabric in similar colors to Mom's blocks.  Fortunately, I didn't have to redo the applique blocks!

Here is the top, finally pieced in March or April of this year.

Then, I quilted it and had the binding finished on April 14, 2020.

I think Mom would be proud.
